I think it's helpful to visualize your cancer as a journey. And when you're on a journey, it's always good to have a roadmap to help guide you so you can see the big picture of what you are experiencing.
The Cancer Journey Roadmap, developed by The Cancer Journey, is a form of Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, which illustrates how a hero goes on an adventure, encounters a decisive crisis, wins a victory, then comes home changed or transformed. No matter what your cancer experience is like, it is definitely a change agent and a transformational journey.

Here are the stages of the journey:
As part of our coaching relationship, we'll use the Cancer Journey Roadmap to locate where you are at in your journey and how to keep you moving through the stages of transformation.
- INNOCENCE – You are unaware that anything unusual is going on. You are just living your life normally.
- THE CALL – The point where things change - when you get your diagnosis.
- INITIATION – A crossing of a threshold. You are unaware of exactly what is coming, but you are walking forward on your journey. Your expectation of how your life will go is no longer happening and you feel disoriented, out of control and not yourself.
- THE PIT – This is where the most panic, anxiety, worry, and set-backs exist. It feels like you’re swirling and not making any progress. This is the beginning of your transformation. Something needs to be “let go” when you're in the Pit.
- ALLIES – Allies are all around us to help us out of the Pit. They come in many forms – people, a song, a program, a discovery. The most important ally is you.
- BREAKTHROUGH – This is the point where you feel that you are emerging into the new you. Cancer changes you. This is where you start to embrace the new you.
- TRANSFORMATION – This is the point when you step into and really claim the new you. There is celebration, some mourning, but a feeling that you are better than you were.
